Overview:
In the review of Elvenar, another game of the same German studio InnoGames, we wrote: “in this game, Economy is a real King, not War.” Well, when speaking about “Warlords Of Aternum”, just as the very name dictate — it is ALL about War!
If you are competitive by nature and always wanted to lead and command — your day has finally come! This role-playing game implicates you to become a long-awaited leader of your homeland to fight, invade and conquer evil forces.
For decades the land of Dunmar has suffered horrendous attacks at the hands of the Orcish Horde. The people were desperately crying out for a hero to end their constant peril. So this is your chance to step up and become a legend!
Despite being released 4 years ago and available only for the mobile devices, Warlords of Aternum is still a big hit, that is doing well and will continue to do even better as it appears from it’s latest update released just in February 2019. So join the millions of players all over the world and prove that you are worthy of the noble role. Plan your strategy, train your troops, and put your tactics to the test in an epic battle for your fantasy universe!

Deepdive
So, here’s the deal: your land had been terrorized by the countless hordes of nasty orcs, and torn apart by greedy pirates for ages. It is finally the time to put it to an end! Your people were waiting for the one and only hero way too long. Now is the time to prove yourself in intense 3D-animated combat. Your mission is to recruit, arm and train a powerful army and lead the liberation war to save the fantasy-world of Aternum by systematically cleaning orc camps from the map.
It is a journey of the strong and brave: rise above your competition by training your special units to their full potential, and equip them with unique abilities and legendary weapons to enhance your tactical capabilities. Seize victory by skillfully placing your units on the battlefield and you’ll go down as one of the greatest Warlords in the history of Dunmar. The turn-based combat system with a proven “Rock-Paper-Scissors” or even chess kind of mechanic allows you to take your time and think through your turn, choose the desired unit and locate them as you see fit. The controls are very simple, as you simply tap a unit to take command, and tapping again to put them into the desired sector, leaving no room for confusion.
Warlords ease you into its world with some easy beginner battles, little by little adding the difficulty level and more facets to consider. For example, terrain and elevation both play important roles, as does the power ratio between different unit types and their ranking. As a result, all battles somehow differ from one another in terms of the battlefield itself, regiments you can bring into combat and where you can have them set up. You also get to upgrade your units with the ammunition and weapons you win in battles, as well as war banners that raise their stats and critical chance.
What really sets Warlords of Aternum apart from other turn-based combat games is its’ visual part: beautiful cartoon-style graphics, diverse detailed 3D characters, colorful artworks, and visible armor upgrades.
However, it would not be called a strategy game, if the military power alone could help you win. On your journey, you will not only face off against the evil orcish horde and treacherous pirates, but you must also strategically claim key trade and resource outposts, upgrade your equipment, obtain resources, advance your technologies and so on and so forth.
Apart from the regular gradually-thickening PVE mode, there are lots of boss-battles as well as an online multiplayer, so you can extend your fun moments and share them with friends, whether nearby or far away In addition to the eternal gratitude of the good citizens of Dunmar, your heroic efforts will merit a rank among Dunmar’s greatest PvP fighters.
Warlords of Aternum is free to download and play, but it also allows you to purchase virtual items with real money inside the game, just like about any other game of the kind. It can boost the progression of your characters leveling and faster gain potentially better equipment as well as battle-ready packs upon unlocking a new character. The difference though is that here the micro-transactions don’t interrupt gameplay, aren’t aggressive are absolutely not necessary to progress. Paying is not needed to succeed as players are matched based on skill and level, it allows for quicker progression to higher levels. You can even disable in-app purchases in your device’s settings if you wish.
